The Body and Covering It Up

I just got this sweater today while on a shopping trip with my mom to buy some pants for the coming winter (first time I've gone pants shopping in three years but that's another story). While considerably more pronounced in these pictures, this sweater is, apparantley, rather see-through, a statement that I have never ventured towards. I think see-through tops are a very interesting idea. Clothes, just in their nature, are there to cover up, yet these shirts skirt this responsibility through showing what they conceal anyway. This strange paradox forces us to question what clothing is truly for. Is it to cover up our bodies despite the fact that we show more at the pool any given day during the summer? Does this mean that clothing in some way is connected to an ingrained sense of body shame? Or is clothing really just there because it is a societal norm that almost everybody follows like any other aspect of our society? A made up law that we follow out of the fear of not conforming? While these may be true for a great number of people, personally, I choose to clothe myself as a creative expression of who I am. Therefore, I suppose, I have absolutely no reason not to wear such a see-through sweater.

With the commencement of school again, I am forced to wear my school's dance company t-shirt every Wednesday. It is, obviously, increasingly difficult to come up with new, creative outfits with such an item of clothing every single week. I reverted back to one of my favorite combinations of lace tights and 40s-esque shorts today, a pairing I do rather too often. Anyway, I think it turned out quite nicely. I like the swirls in "Modazz" with the swirls of the intricacies of lace.

The Image of a Dress

This was the first time I wore my new dress to school. I got a very warm reaction from my peers. They said it was the perfect color, the perfect cut, the back peek was so interesting (nobody was quite sure whether or not it was ok with the school dress code since they mainly focused on the belly button!). One girl even told me that when she pictures the word dress, it looks just like this! Ha ha.

The Heat of the Times

Despite it being the end of October, it is daily in the nineties here in Phoenix and I am sick to death of it. This, even for the desert, is not normal. I've lived just about my entire life here and by this time of year I'm usually wearing jackets and shivering every now and then. How people can deny global warming at this point shocks the hell out of me. Next year I will be able to vote and I am joining the Green Party. We cannot continue to allow this to happen. (This has nothing to do with my outfit, I know, and my frustrated rant was far from my mind when I was taking these happy little pictures. Just reflecting back on the fact that I can wear this tiny little dress this time of year and still sweat is rediculous).

Like in the Old Days

I've been a fan of Schmutzerland since about March of this year. Their jewelry, however wonderful, is rather expensive in my opinion so I have been holding myself back for the past few months. With a new babysitting job, however, I have finally been able to save up for a necklace and justify its purchase. I bought the strangest one on the sight: a hand pulling out a tooth with some pliers.

Waiting at the Precipice of Work

This is my last day of fall break. It was a decently long one  (two and a half weeks), but between mountains of homework, college applications, short story submitions, and getting my wisdom teeth out, I hardly noticed that it even existed. Although tomorrow I only will have calculus, dance, physics, and choir (all except calculus being fairly easy), I still cannot help but mourn the loss of the freedom these last couple of weeks have offered, despite having been wasted on responsibility.

Melon and Dirt

This outfit was kind of inspired by the designer Gretchin Jones (I know, another former Project Runway contestant, I sound like a broken record). Her spring 2012 collection contained a great amount of skirts longer in the back than in the front (love!) and shirts that just barely met the top of the skirt, making any sort of arm movement reveal a slightly exciting flash of mid-drift.

Halloween

Halloween is by far my favorite holiday. My family finally put out Halloween decorations yesterday. We are appropriately referred to as the "Spider House" in my neighborhood.

Saturday

Saturday was rather nice. I got to go shopping at Buffalo Exchange (had an extremely minor accident backing out of my parking space-- not so nice), got to go to my friend Melissa's RAW art show, and then went bowling with my church afterward. Here are a few pictures!
